ELEMENTS
- Space: negative or positive space; foreground, mid, or background
- Line: continuous movement of a point along a surface
- Balance: symmetrical or asymmetrical, location of objects and textures used
- Color: Primary Colors or Complimentary Colors; evoke emotion
- Shape: organic or geometric; give objects a definition
- Texture: perceived surface quality
- Value: light vs dark-- shading; gives depth perception
PRINCIPLES
- Unity: balance, repetition, harmony; everything belongs
- Variety: difference in shape, color, line
- Repetition: reoccurrence of elements within a piece
- Harmony: consistency in style; balance & unity
- Contrast: using differring color, texture, size, etc to create interest
- Proximity: physical placement of objects within a piece; imply realism
- Functionality: design communicate a message or information and is done for a purpose; good design is aesthetically pleasing & informative
